Who Will Distribute 'Bond 23'? It Might Be Fox

Now that James Bond has found brand-new life, everyone wants a piece of your ex.
The character was reinvigorated by the difficult resolve of Daniel Craig, but after the ‘Quantum of Solace,I the iconic spy received sucked into MGM’s vortex of financial woe. Though noted director Sam Mendes came up on to helm ‘Bond 23,’ and Craig was still around to celebrity, it wasn’t enough to hold the production afloat, and last April, development was stopped indefinitely.
Once MGM filed for bankruptcy in November, 007 acquired a new chance at existence. The picture once again gained vapor, with Mendes still attached, manufacturing ready to kick off and a The fall of 9, 2012 release date set for the next super traveler adventure.
But who’s planning to distribute it?
According to The The show biz industry Reporter, though earlier nibbles recommended that MGM would hand distribution to Paramount Pictures — as a result of ties between new co-chairmans Grettle Barber and Roger Birnbaum and Paramount execs — other studios are going into the running.
Fox pitched to MGM last week, arguing in which their studio would perform the best job exploiting Bond, as well as other future [and past] MGM films. They have a point — the two studios also have a long-standing overseas deal in position, one that will expire inside September. But just to make the amalgamation even more interesting, Sony Images wants a slice. They, too, have good standing with MGM, having released the very last two Bond films, and said to be on good phrases with the Broccoli family, owner of the Bond rights.
Deals should be settled soon, but for now, we’ll must wait and see who gets plastered on top — studio friendships, offshore partners or the execs small with Bond and Broccoli.
